HELLY HANSEN personal protection equipment (PPE) is exclusively manufactured and tested in compliance with the standards by the European Directive 89/686/CEE and is therefore labelled in conformity with the EC regulation in effect. HELLY HANSEN work clothes are designed for protecting against accidents and injury of all those who work in hot or cold conditions, with fire or in rain, and reduced visibility. The EC Label refers to the safety of the product. The European Directive 89/686/EEC constitutes the legislation of all of the member states of the European Community relative to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). This European Directive 89/686/EEC specifically defines the fundamental requirements that the PPE must comply with relative to design and manufacturing in order to guarantee a safe work environment.

The European Directive 89/686/EEC classes the PPE into thee categories:

► Category 1 covers the lowest level of PPE. The user is considered as being aware of the need to protect himself, and the risk of serious consequences in case of non-use of the appropriate clothing is limited. The manufacturer declares products of this category to be in conformity with the standards. HH products of this category are waterproof clothing (EN 343) and clothing for protection against the cold (EN 342).

► Category 2 covers products designed to be used in environments where a risk of serious, but not fatal consequences exists (neither category 1, nor category 3). These products must be tested and certified by an approved organisation. The products of this category are fire proof clothing (EN 531/533, EN 470), clothing that provide protection against static electricity (EN 1149), high visibility clothing (EN 471), life vests (EN 395, 396 and 399) and  accessories for floatation (EN 393).

► Category 3 covers les products and environments where the user may be exposed to mortal danger or dangers that can seriously harm his health or cause irreparable damage. The products of this category are in conformity with the CLC/TS 50354 standard; meaning that this clothing must be used by  workers exposed to an electric arc.

The EC label provides documentation stipulating that the product is in conformity with the defined standards for products of this kind. However, it is not a guarantee that the product makes it possible to avoid the risks of accident or injury when the user is exposed to such risks in a personal environment.
